This question is totally non tech related but something that always mystifies me and since I’m also looking to solve life’s mysteries with this blog it fits.
For as long as I’ve been at this library the Children’s Room has been the home to a number of small fuzzes. We’ve had a gerbil, guinea pig, rabbit and five hamsters (not all at the same time mind you). The cage is always in a prominent spot but of course hamsters, being nocturnal, aren’t always out for people to ooh and ah over.
I can’t tell you the number of times someone has asked if there is anything in the cage. Now why on earth would we have a cage with bedding, food, water and no fuzzy? I guess in this case that old axiom “out of sight, out of mind” turns into “out of sight, out of logic.”
BTW this is the newest member of the library family Ratatouille. Our previous hamster, Scooter, passed away just before Christmas so we had a giant letter to Santa that the kids could sign asking for a new one. Bless his little heart Santa came through for us.
This photo was taken by the intrepid Kate Warren, hamster wrangler extraordinaire, and Supervisor of our Chidren’s Services.

Greetings from the hamster wrangler! Ratatouille is a great addition to our Children’s Room and I am very grateful to Santa for bringing. Daisy wasn’t totally honest when she said this post didn’t have to do with technology. Daisy, who is our intrepid webmistress, will be posting pics of Ratatouille on our website for kids to see! It’s really cool for kids to watch what Ratatouille is doing on the website…maybe we’ll even get a live ham-cam one day. Now, back to being Supervisor of Children’s Services (a very long title for a very fun job!).
